We introduce novel online, virtual reality synthetic organ simulation program for robotic surgery. METHODS: Surgical trainees from urology, general, colorectal, gynaecology undertook four pillared education program. This included 9 online modules teaching the theory principles Then hands-on using Mimic simulators assess score psychomotor skills innate ability. A curated dual console experience was created live 3D stereoscopic video uploaded Oculus headsets prior progression operating room. Trainees commenced room high-fidelity printed hydrogel models containing clinically relevant objective surgical metrics review. Finally, mentored surgery with access cloud-based review provided. RESULTS: 32 participants completed course averaging 8 hours. Pre post surveys demonstrated increased confidence ability perform assisting procedures. curriculum on simulators. Time proficiency ranged 38 98 minutes. Robotic radical prostatectomy operative steps were headsets. 2 expert novice surgeons pelvic node dissection models. Blood loss, anastomosis integrity, nerve strain, positive margins time recorded. Live footage platform remote assessment faculty surgeons. CONCLUSIONS: new method that uses now enables shift away relies cadavers, animals learning patients. Perioperative nurse training in cardiothoracic surgical robotics.
The exponential growth of OR technology during the past 10 years has placed increased demands on perioperative nurses. Proficiency is required not only in patient care but also in the understanding, operating, and troubleshooting of video systems, computers, and cutting edge medical devices. The formation of a surgical team dedicated to robotically assisted cardiac surgery requires careful sele...
متن کاملPerioperative Nurse Training in Cardiothoracic Surgical Robotics
T hroughout the 1980s, technology enabled a sharp increase in the number of video-assisted endoscopies performed in multiple specialties. As the use of lasers and focused energy devices increased, more demands were placed on perioperative nurses to become technically adept. During the past 10 years, technology has grown exponentially, and the complexity of new devices and their applications has...
متن کاملSurgical and Interventional Robotics
T wo decades after the first reported robotic surgical procedure [1], surgical robots are just beginning to be widely used in the operating room or interventional suite. The da Vinci telerobotic system (Intuitive Surgical, Inc.), for example, has recently become more widely employed for minimally invasive surgery [2]. This article, the first in a three-part series, examines the core concepts un...

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) originated in the 1970s in Germany where Kurt Semm, a gynecologist and engineer at the University of Kiel, headed a team that constructed laparoscopic instrumentation to successfully perform various laparoscopic gynecological procedures, as well as the first “endoscopic appendectomy” in 1982. The general surgery community adopted this early laparoscopic technolo...
متن کاملTraining and Tracking in Robotics
We explore the use of learning schemes in training and adapting performance on simple coordination tasks. The tasks are 1-D pole balancing. Several programs incorporating learning have already achieved this (1, S, 8]: the problem is to move a cart along a short piece of track to at to keep a pole balanced on its end; the pole is hinged to the cart at its bottom, and the cart is moved either to ...
